DSWD-NCR celebration of National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week

In celebration of the 33rd National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation (NDPR) Week slated from July 17-23, 2011, the Department of Social Welfare and Development in the National Capital Region (DSWD-NCR) has lined-up various activities to advocate for the rights of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).

The theme of this year’s celebration is “Making the Rights of Real Filipinos with Disabilities,” (Isakatuparan ang Karapatan ng Filipinong May Kapansanan).

DSWD-NCR Regional Director Ma. Alicia S. Bonoan said that this celebration aims to stimulate public awareness of disability issues and concerns that will strengthen the involvement of government and non-government organizations including PWDs themselves and the media.

This celebration also serves as a vehicle of information for programs being implemented by government agencies including non-government organizations that adhere to the promotion of the welfare of PWDs.

In a simple ceremony held at DSWD-NCR grounds during its Monday flag ceremony, PWD employees from the Field Office, centers and institutions were recognized to acknowledge their significant contributions in the effective delivery of DSWD programs and services in spite their disabilities.

“You are good examples of strong persons who have not allowed disability to win over your good disposition in spite of your limitations. Thank you for being part of this noble work in the Department and may you continue to be an inspiration to all,” Director Bonoan said in her message.

Among the highlights of the week-long celebration are Orientation with PWDs on the LRT/MRT Accessibility and Safety Features in compliance to BP 344 on July 20 at MRT Line 2, Santolan Depot; Conduct of Mobility Clinic on July 21 at Brgy. San Vicente Multi-Purpose Hall, Quezon City; Talk on Prevention of Disability, Natural Way/Management of Diabetes and Hypertension on July 22 at NAPOCOR, Quezon Avenue; and Conduct of First Music Festival on July 23 at SM Fairview, Quezon City.
